Mayor Berry Breaks Ground on Holiday Park Community Center Renovation
April 10, 2012
Albuquerque, NM— In a move that will lead to expanded before and after school programs, Mayor Richard Berry and City Council President Trudy Jones broke ground on the renovation of the Holiday Park Community Center today.
The $3.6 Million dollar project is expected to be complete in early 2013.
"This facility used to be an open air shelter in the 1970’s," Mayor Berry said. "Today, we begin the process to update it to a full service community center."
The new Holiday Park Community Center will have a new meeting room, small service kitchen, small fitness room, exercise room, computer lab, game room, and a mini-gym with basketball facilities.
"This is the only community center in council district 8," Council President Jones said. "We’ll now be able to expand the much needed before and after school programs."
The new facility will be approximately 18,000 square feet. Kells + Craig is the design consultant, HB Construction is the contractor. The Department of Municipal Development is supervising construction, the Department of Family and Community Services will continue to run the center once construction is complete.
