The non-stop, daily flights to New York City will start in April of 2013

November 14, 2012

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Today, during Mayor Richard J. Berry’s third State of the City Address, he announced a major development for business and tourism travel in New Mexico.  The mayor has secured a deal with JetBlue Airlines to provide air service to Albuquerque, with the first route being a non-stop flight from the Albuquerque International Sunport to New York City’s JFK International Airport. The news regarding the flight to the big apple comes on the heels of months of conversations between Mayor Berry, JetBlue’s CEO Dave Barger and Ann Rhoads, from their Board of Directors.

"This is a huge step for Albuquerque that will add to our opportunities for business and leisure travel.  New York City is the largest market in the country and we now have non-stop service.  This will make us more business, convention and tourist friendly which is good news for us all," Mayor Berry said.  "The JetBlue brand is a tremendous product and the city looks forward to a long-term partnership and additional growth opportunities with the airline."

Albuquerque has not had regularly scheduled service into the New York area since service to Newark ended in 2008.  The new daily flight will open up economic development, convention and tourism opportunities in both markets, as well as provide for additional connections within JetBlue’s network and international connections out of JFK.
