Mayor and First Lady Berry Present Checks to Charity Gala Recipients
Albuquerque- – Today, Mayor Richard J. Berry and First Lady Maria Berry joined United Way of Central New Mexico, The Community Foundation, and Albuquerque Heading Home to present the local non-profits with proceeds from the 2014 Mayor & First Lady’s Charity Gala. Checks totaling more than $229,000 were given to the worthy charities. The success of the Gala is evidenced by the fact that proceeds raised were able to meet the financial requests of each non-profit beneficiary of the event, for the fifth year in a row. Over the five years that the First Lady and Mayor have been hosting the gala, they’ve raised more than $900,000 for local non-profits, helping tens of thousands of people in need.
“We’re ever so grateful to our community for their continuous generosity and support of this event and our worthy, local charities,” said Gala Chairwoman and First Lady Maria Berry. “Our Gala board is honored to play a part in helping these inspirational non-profits continue their meaningful work.”
Mayor Berry reiterated his appreciation to supporters of the event, “I am proud to be the Mayor of a city that gives so selflessly. It’s an amazing testament to Albuquerque and the dozens of non-profit recipients who have used the funds to provide much needed services to thousands of individuals right here at home.”
Next year’s charity gala is slated for Saturday, April 25, 2015 and will be hosted by the newly renovated Albuquerque Convention Center. The categories for next year’s event will include student success and economic mobility through entrepreneurship.
