Mayor and First Lady Berry Present Checks to Charity Gala Recipients
August 2, 2012
Albuquerque- – Today, Mayor Richard J. Berry and First Lady Maria Berry presented The Metropolitan Homelessness Program for Veterans, Albuquerque Reads, Reads West, and United Way of Central New Mexico with checks totaling $175,000 from the proceeds raised during the 2013 Mayor and First Lady’s Charity Gala. The success of the Gala is evidenced by the fact that proceeds raised were able to meet the financial requests of each non-profit beneficiary of the event, for the fourth year in a row.
"This is a reflection of the fact that Albuquerque has really stepped up and been so generously so these worthy non-profits can continue their valuable work in our community," said Gala Chairwoman and First Lady Maria Berry. "The benefiting organizations are consistently contributing to our community, so we’re honored to help them fund their inspirational work."
Mayor Berry reiterated his appreciation to supporters of the event, "This is a community-wide effort and I am so proud to be Mayor of a city that gives so selflessly. In the four years that we’ve been hosting the Charity Gala we’ve been able to donate more than $675,000 to worthy local non-profits. That’s an amazing testament to Albuquerque and our 20 non-profit recipients who have used the funds to provide much needed services to over 75,000 individuals right here at home."
