Albuquerque, NM - Mayor Richard J. Berry and the Department of Family and Community Services are hosting an open house at the Taylor Ranch Community Center (4900 Kachina ST NW) this Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 10 am – 2 pm.
This weekend’s event is designed to highlight the newly renovated gym at the Taylor Ranch Community Center. A total of $317,331 was spent on a new roof and floor in the gym. Construction began in October of 2015 and wrapped up in the middle of March 2016.
According to the American Heart Association childhood obesity rates are at an all-time high: today, nearly one in three kids and teens in the United States are obese or overweight.
Get out and get active! The Taylor Ranch Community Center offers after school programs, open basketball, open adult volley ball, open gym, step aerobics, Taekwondo, and much more.
This weekend visitors may take advantage of:
- Yolates (Yoga combined with Palates)
- Star Wars Characters will make an appearance
- Animal Welfare Pet adoption
- Keep Albuquerque Beautiful Clothes Drive
- Parks and Recreation will provide their popular climbing wall
- AFD will bring a Fire Truck
- Pizza will be provided by Papa Murphy’s
“Raising active children tends to produce active adults,” said Mayor Richard J. Berry. “This event is a great way for our City Departments to showcase what they offer to get our kids moving and engaged with activities we host.”
With 22 Community Centers to choose from the Department of Family and Community Services wants to encourage everyone to get out and discover their community center and get active.
