Happy New Year!

If you have had too much to drink, please find an alternative way home!

Happy New Year!

Mayor Chávez talking about New Year's Saftey

Monday, Mayor Chávez announced some safe alternatives to drinking and driving this New Years Holiday.

One such way is the 766 Rapid Ride Red Line, which will run late on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 in observance of New Year’s Eve.

“This is an exciting new opportunity for ABQ Ride to assist in the fight against DWI by giving passengers an affordable, convenient alternative to driving,” said the Mayor. “It allows Albuquerque residents to enjoy the city's diverse and exciting nightlife without the hassles of parking or the dangers of drinking and driving."

The Red Line runs from Albuquerque’s Westside to the Uptown Transit Center, through the Central Avenue corridor.

Bus service will be provided until 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Ten buses will run every ten minutes until 10 p.m., at which point five buses will continue to operate every 22 minutes.

ABQ Ride Security will be joined by the Albuquerque Police Department to provide a security presence on the buses and at both the Southwest Mesa and Uptown Park and Ride locations during this late night run.

Also, The Downtown Action Team will offer free taxi rides home from the intersection of Fourth and Central. The rides are available New Year’s Eve from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. and will take you home with in the city limits of Albuquerque and Rio Rancho.

There will be DWI checkpoints through out the city this New Years, so please find one of the many alternative ways home if you have had too much to drink.

Should you have any questions, please call 311.
