Firefighters and Paramedics Swift to Act to Save a Man’s Life
September 13, 2013
Albuquerque- Today Richard J. Berry honored paramedics and firefighters who were quick to action when a man’s life was on the line. Paramedics from Rescue 1 and Firefighters from Engine 4 were pivotal in keeping a man alive when his body completely shut down.
Last month, a man was undergoing a routine Chemical Stress Test when his heart decided to arrest; causing it to speed up to 200 beats per minute. Panicked, his wife of 48 years called 911 and anxiously awaited the arrival of crews to save her husband; at this point her husband had been unconscious for 6 minutes. In no time at all, the personnel of Rescue 1 and Engine 4 arrived on scene to save the man.
This dramatic and frightening experience for the couple was able to have a happy ending all thanks to the crew of Rescue 1 and Engine 4. Without these brave men and women, the outcome of their horrific emergency would have ended completely differently. It’s because of life-saving actions like this, that Firefighters and EMT’s perform every day that make them such an asset to our city. We are forever grateful for what they do day-in and day-out to ensure the citizens of Albuquerque’s safety and well-being.
