ALBUQUERQUE, NM – March 26, 2013 - A Boeing 727-200F aircraft from FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) made its final journey today onto the Albuquerque International Sunport. Mayor Richard J. Berry, along with Sunport and community leaders, gathered to celebrate this generous donation to the City of Albuquerque Aviation Department. A tour of the aircraft followed its arrival.
"It’s exciting for FedEx Express to be able to donate one of its original workhorse freighters to Albuquerque’s aviation department," said David Sutton, managing director of Aircraft Acquisition and Sales for FedEx. "The donation of this 727 aircraft reflects the pride we take in giving back to the communities where FedEx people live and work."
Since 2000, FedEx has donated 67 of its Boeing 727 aircraft to aviation schools, municipal and airport fire departments, colleges and museums for training and education. Before its final flight, aircraft 727-200 REGISTRATION NUMBER N485FE provided FedEx with 20 years’ service transporting packages to destinations throughout the United States.
As with other FedEx community service programs, there are numerous success stories resulting from this donation.
"The donation of this FedEx B-727 to the city of Albuquerque is a tremendous gift," said Mayor Berry. "It will initially provide for emergency preparedness training and eventually, become an interpretive and learning center for the children of our community."
