The City of Albuquerque Cares

Mayor Martin J. Chávez invites the City of Albuquerque to help those less fortunate in our community.

The holidays are a time of year when many of us think about giving back and helping those most in need. In an effort to assist in having a wholesome holiday, the City of Albuquerque is asking you for your support of local organizations. Here is just a few that need your help.

The Roadrunner Food Bank

Help support the Roadrunner Food Bank’s “Virtual Food Drive.” By logging onto www.rrfb.org and selecting the “Holiday Food Drive” link you can help provide food to the needy.

The Road Runner Food Bank maximizes their purchases by buying overstock, closeout and code-date items from selected vendors in large quantities. The “Virtual Food Bank” also increases efficiency by purchasing only items that are most needed. By the click of a button you can help your fellow neighbor through a difficult holiday season. Please contribute; any size of donation is greatly appreciated.

Pet Giving Tree

Let us not forget Albuquerque’s four-legged neighbors this holiday season. The City of Albuquerque is asking for your participation in donating items for the homeless pets of Albuquerque. We want to help our homeless pets by placing them into loving new homes with a wonderful care package to help their transition to their caring new families. You can drop off donations at the Eastside and Westside animal shelters or by taking them directly to the Mayor’s office on the 11th floor of City Hall where you can meet Dukes, the First-Dog of Albuquerque. The deadline is December 15th 2008.

Suggested items are; Dog Beds, Cat Beds, New or Used Dog or Cat Crates, Dog Toys, Cat Toys, Cat Litter, Cat Litter Boxes, Cat Food, Kitten Food, Cat Treats, Dog Food, Puppy Food, Dog Toys, Dog Bones, Dog Treats, Cat Scratching Posts, Dog Collars, Dog Leashes, Cat Collars, Dog Brushes, Grooming Supplies (e.g., shears, etc.), Cat Brushes, and Dog Bathing Wipes. For more information please contact James Hallinan.
