Albuquerque, NM- Today, Mayor Richard J. Berry, Councilor Debbie O’Malley and the Safe City Strike Force leveled a well-known drug house in northwestern Albuquerque; eliminating this nuisance from the community. The house, located at 1910 Los Luceros NW had received countless complaints from neighbors. Not only was the structure unsafe and a problem area for the community, there had also been several cases of criminal activity on the property. Police had responded to the house numerous times, one of the encounters ended with a suspect swallowing a balloon of heroin, and assaulting a police officer.
"Houses like these are not just an eyesore, they’re a nuisance to the neighborhood," said Mayor Berry. "Getting rid of homes like this one, greatly contributes to the community’s overall peace of mind and well-being. The great police work, which ensured the safety of our citizens, was crucial to this positive outcome."
Last month the property was sold to a new owner Stan and Amy Low, under an agreement with the city that the drug house would be demolished. The new owners plan on building a new home on the land. All costs associated with demolishing the structure are being paid by the new home owners.
