City Employee Inspires Others to Give

Employee of the Week: Miguel Navrot

February 28, 2014

Albuquerque- Today Chief Administrative Officer Rob Perry honored a City of Albuquerque employee who led the charge on behalf of the city to raise money for United Way and its many local charity recipients.  Through his efforts, city web managing editor Miguel Navrot not only increased employee participation, but his efforts also resulted in financial contributions which surpassed those raised in previous years.

Every year the City of Albuquerque participates in the campaign to raise money for United Way of Central New Mexico and its associated charities. Through these programs, United Way of Central New Mexico serves people in need in Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia counties by supporting a variety of non-profits that work to improve the human condition.

In 2013 Miguel Navrot was asked by city leaders to spearhead fundraising efforts as the Employee Campaign Manager. This task was not without challenges. Miguel was charged with motivating 6,000+ employees to contribute for the first time or to build on their previous year’s donations in order to raise more money than ever before.  He worked with representatives of each agency under the city’s authority to manage the process across city departments.  Through his compelling leadership, Miguel encouraged each department to come up with mini-campaigns and fundraisers to raise money through creative events including raffles, bake sales, and silent auctions. Every city employee was provided with a form in order to donate directly as a deduction from their paychecks.

Through Miguel’s diligent work, he and the department coordinators were able to raise almost $10,000 more than the previous year, for a total employee driven donation of almost $269,000.  In addition to the valuable contributions he makes to the city through his regular work in the area of information technology, Miguel has proven to be an extremely effective fundraiser whose efforts have resulted in substantial contributions to local charities which benefit those in need in our community.
