Albuquerque, NM – Mayor Richard J. Berry announced today that the City of Albuquerque has officially completed its city wide roll out of the blue recycling carts to Albuquerque residents today. A recent agreement with Friedman Recycling helped to make automated curbside recycling a reality.

The Solid Waste Management Department began distributing 96 gallon recycling carts on May 1st and officially delivered its last cart yesterday completing a six month roll-out. A total of 177,644 blue recycling carts have been delivered between this year’s roll-out and last year’s pilot program.

"Our commitment to increasing Albuquerque’s recycling rate is evident in the completion of this roll-out," Mayor Richard J. Berry said.  "The completion of this roll-out allows us to work towards our next goal, a 25% diversion rate."

Friedman Recycling built a cutting-edge, 89,000 square foot Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). The new facility is a single stream, dry processing, and sorting plant. An estimated 120,000 tons of recyclable material will be sorted at the new facility each year, helping to reduce the amount of trash that is sent to the landfill.
