A New Fitness Center at Los Volcanes Senior Center

Mayor Chávez joined hundreds of seniors for the grand opening of the new Los Volcanes Fitness Center.

Mayor Chávez was met with a thunderous applause of hundreds of seniors as he arrived to cut the ribbon at the new Los Volcanes Fitness Center. Many of the people standing in line had been there since 8 in the morning for the 10 am ribbon cutting ceremony. “I am excited that the 50+ population on the West Side now has an upscale exercise facility to call their own,” says Mayor Martin J. Chávez. “This new facility is part of my commitment and the City’s commitment to remaining one of the most fit cities in the country.”

The Center is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost for membership is $13 per year, and members are requested to give a $.50 donation each time they work out. The $1.8 million fitness center was designed by award-winning Mahlman Studio Architecture and was built by Crown Builders.  Funding for the fitness center came largely from the state legislature.
