Mayor Richard J. Berry and First Lady Maria announced the non-profit organizations that will be the recipients of the 2011 Mayor and First Lady’s Charity Gala.
The focus this year specializes in the areas of serving our youth, aiding in the health and wellness of our citizens, and alleviating poverty. In January 2011, the mayor and first lady requested proposals be submitted online to apply for the funds. The following 501(c)(3) organizations will benefit from dollars raised at this year’s gala:
Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico
New Mexico Jazz Workshop
YWCA Middle Rio Grande
Samaritan Counseling Center of Albuquerque
This year’s event is themed, “The Key to Giving,” and will celebrate 25 years of galas in city history. Just like the 2010 Charity Gala, the 2011 event returns downtown. The Albuquerque Convention Center Ballrooms will host the event. The Hyatt Regency, Doubletree Hotel, and Hotel Andaluz have already committed to giving discounted room rates to gala guests.
Mayor and Mrs. Berry are asking corporations and individuals to purchase a sponsorship package. Packages range from $3,000-15,000 and include fun incentives such as a private dinner with the Mayor and First Lady and VIP tickets to a private party with the Mayor and First Lady. Tables and individual tickets for the 2011 Charity Gala can be purchased as well.
In 2010, the Mayor and First Lady’s Charity Gala raised more than $180,000. Recipients included ARCA, The Harmony Project, Silver Horizons NM, The Barrett Foundation, United Way of Central New Mexico, Bernalillo County Counsel of PTAs, and Catholic Charities.
