Robert Ramirez works in the Department of Municipal Development.

Robert Ramirez, a city employee with the Department of Municipal Development, was working when he received a call about a water line break at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2010.

On Friday morning the landscape contractor hit an unmarked one inch water line while working on an intersection at Wyoming and Harper. This water leak began to flood the intersection.

The contractor contacted the Water Utility Authority and Ramirez. Ramirez arrived on the site within minutes of the call. He stayed on site to ensure that all steps to fix the line break were done. While Ramirez was on site, he ordered appropriate parts to prevent further damage to the intersection.

Ramirez stayed until 8:00 p.m. that evening, even though he started his day at 6:30 in the morning. Even after his actual shift ended, Ramirez knew he had to stay as late as he had to for the job to be finished.

His strong superior leadership, exemplary willingness to do whatever was necessary to help resolve the situation is truly commendable.
