Weed and Litter Crew Collect More Than 300,000 lbs. of Trash Annually

November 30, 2012

The Weed and Litter crew (20 Grounds Crew and 14 Highway Crew employees) clean more than 58,000 miles each year. The Grounds Crew cleans more than 21,000 miles of major thoroughfares while the Highway Crew cleans more than 37,000 miles of highways. Together they collect more than 334,000 pounds (167 tons) of trash.

"Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Weed and Litter crew Albuquerque is one of the cleanest cities in the country," said Mayor Richard J. Berry. “A clean city is not only pleasant to live in; it also attracts new businesses to the area."

In addition to their regular duties, each year prior to the City’s Fourth of July Celebration, The New Mexico State Fair and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the Weed and Litter crew converge on the streets of Albuquerque to ensure that our visitors enjoy their stay in Albuquerque.

"The Weed and Litter crew are dedicated and take pride in their work," said Marco Holloway, Superintendent of the Solid Waste Management Department’s Clean City Division. 'When you see this crew working on the freeways or major thoroughfares, please slow down and help us keep them safe."
