The Juvenile Fire Setter Program, also known as the Youth Fire Awareness Program (YFAP), is an educational approach for children who have more than a simple interest in fire or fire setting. This program consists of an office interview with an emphasis on fire safety. Homework assignments are given, and a follow-up visit to the home is conducted to view the burned area if this involved a fire setter. Additional assignments are given, visits to a fire station is arranged, and a strong mentor program is developed.
Referrals to the program are made to the Fire Prevention Bureau through the Fire Marshal's Office or by parents of the children.
