Featured band of the week: ¡Revíva!

The "Burque/Reggae/Rock Rhythm" group ¡Revíva! is the Albuquerque Music Office's featured Band of the Week for Dec. 12, 2011.

Revíva has made a name for themselves in the ABQ music scene through their inspiring lyrics, unique sound, and positive vibes. Forming in the fall of 2009, they turned ears with their original Burque/Reggae/Rock rhythm and lyrics in both english and spanish that touch the soul.

Consisting of six members, Glenn "Buddha" Benavidez (Bass), Cody Jones (Percussion), Danny "The Harp" Garcia (Keys/Harmonica), Ragon Espinosa (Drums), Jerel Garcia (Guitar) and Chris Brennan (Vocals/Song writer). They first started performing at small local venues for friends and family, but quickly moved to larger venues such as Sunshine Theater opening for artists Tribal Seeds, The Dirty Heads, and The Wailers. Revíva released their first 18 track album "Change" in August of 2011 in front of a packed house at the Launchpad. The album was recorded locally by artist and producer Colin "Diles" Hazelbaker in his home studio.

Revíva's mission as a band is to revive themselves and others through the healing power of music. To give back and help those in the community, spread positivity, and inspire change in the way people think and act. Perhaps the greatest act of selflessness is evident in the actions of lead singer Chris Brennan, who dedicated two and a half years of his life to join the Peace Corps. He is currently volunteering in Pearl Lagoon, Nicaragua teaching English and helping their community. His goal is to start a music exchange program between Nicaragua and Albuquerque students. Despite Chris' absence, Revíva continues to play music locally with heart, soul and most importantly LOVE.
