State Agencies Partnering Up to Promote National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
The African American Health & Social Services Department and The NM Dept of Health is teaming up with several state agencies – including Aging and Long Term Services Dept and Office of African American Affairs – along with other partners to promote National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
Community members, community leaders, advocates, practitioners and lawmakers are all invited to learn more about current HIV/AIDS prevention trends and initiatives. There will be free and anonymous rapid HIV testing, informational booths and entertainment. Hors d'oeuvres will also be served.
African Americans in New Mexico have the highest rate of HIV infection among all racial/ethnic groups in the state. In 2011, the HIV incidence rate among African Americans in New Mexico was 21 per 100,000, nearly three times higher than the statewide rate of 7.4 per 100,000.
