'Between Worlds' Exhibit
View "Between Worlds" through Aug 24, 2013.
The exhibit shows paintings & sculpture by artists Christian Gallegos, Paul Jenks, and Jeff Laird.
Christian Gallegos is a contemporary abstract artist who has spent his life between the worlds of the Southwest and New York City. His 2012 collection evokes bold line and shape patterns and a "high above" perspective which comes from many hours of flying as a child. The collection gives a "rooftop" perspective that allows viewers to look above the streets of a city. Gallegos pursued a BA in Fine Art from UNM and received an Associate's Degree from Bronx Community College in New York. His work has been shown in a number of galleries in New York, Albuquerque and Tucson.
Paul Jenks is a lifelong resident of Albuquerque who studied painting and drawing at UNM, earning a BFA in 1985, and a Master's in Art Education/Art Therapy in 1988. He also earned a BS in Oriental Medicine. He has spent 20 years working in the mental health field, bringing the creative process to individuals in a number of settings. His work has been shown in numerous galleries and shows throughout the Albuquerque area and in Santa Fe.
Jeff Laird has been photographing the ubiquitous, irregular shapes of the backside urban America for many years, primarily in Chicago and Austin, and now in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. After retiring from a career in commercial real estate, he moved to New Mexico and began actively pursuing his art. His work has developed from his theory that the subconsciously-produced, irregular forms have a paramount place in history, manifested from ancient to contemporary art. His work has been seen in numerous galleries in the Albuquerque area and northern New Mexico.
