New Year's Eve Before Dark

Celebrate New Year's Eve with these family-friendly events.

Those looking for family-friendly New Year's Eve events during the day will find a variety of options in Old Town and surrounding areas. "New Year's Eve Before Dark" will include special activities throughout the day on December 31 at three museums, the Old Town Gazebo, and other venues. 

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can enjoy hands-on activities, free with regular admission, in the museum's atrium from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Albuquerque Museum is hosting art making activities in its Grand Lobby from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibits, cafe, and shop will not be open. The activities are free of charge. Galleries, the Museum Store, and Slate at the Museum will NOT be open.  

Trio Los Amigos de New Mexico will perform authentic Mexican, Latin American, and classical music from noon to 2 p.m. at Albuquerque Museum. Trio Los Amigos have been playing for 10 years in many venues including festivals, private performances, and TV appearances in Mexico and the United States. The concert is free. *Due to weather conditions, this has moved to Albuquerque Museum from The Old Town Gazebo. 

Explora's annual Noon Year's Eve Family Celebration, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature a Balloon Drop at noon to celebrate the new year 12 hours early. To ring in Noon Year's Eve, 2,019 balloons will be released. Explora will also have have a photo selfie station with fun props, a 2019 Wish Wall, and other activities. All activities are included with regular admission. Explora closes at 2 p.m. on December 31 and will reopen January 2.

Spurline Supply Co. is hosting a children's crown making event from 2 to 4 p.m. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
