Summertime in Old Town- Sherri Gonzalez Quartet
From April to October, weekends in Old Town come to life with music, dance, and theater.
Sherri Gonzales was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico into a musical family. She was surrounded by drummers, guitarists, vocalists, dancers, and pianists. She began playing violin at age 8 but switched to cello at age 10 and has been singing since she could vocalize. Growing up she also played her families’ guitars and pianos including a short stint in flute. In 1996, she began her professional musical career in Rio Grande High School’s salsa band Salsa del Rio led by Dair Obenshain. Upon graduation she joined a community group also led by Dair and managed by Chuy Martinez La Rondalla del Museo de Albuquerque (now called “La Rondalla de Albuquerque” led by Otilio Ruiz) playing cello and singing. Sherri began singing the blues in 2003 and has played with such notable artists such as Albuquerque guitar and bass virtuoso, Markie Gonzales, Albuquerque blues legend, Joe "Daddy" Warner, world renowned artist and bass player, Jeff "JD" Sipe, and Albuquerque guitar virtuoso, Darin Goldston. She now leads her own bands including Sherri and The Blues Four, Sherri and the Ex’s, and Sherri Gonzales Trio.
