It's time to celebrate all fathers at the annual Dia del Padre (Father's Day Fiesta) at the Zoo. On June 16, come to the Zoo to listen to live Mexican music, learn about the best animal dads, visit booths from local businesses and win prize giveaways. Discovery stations about animal fathers will offer hands-on learning from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., and four guest bands will perform from 1-5 p.m.

"The Father's Day Fiesta is the perfect time to appreciate dads of all species," said Sarah Haft, Zoo Education Specialist.  "From amphibians to carnivores awesome fathers can be found throughout the animal kingdom. Discovery stations at the Zoo will highlight some of our favorites."

Find out who makes the "Top Ten" for best animal dads. Activities also include daily feedings and the 11 a.m. performance of the World Animal Encounters Show (the 2 p.m. show will be canceled on June 16 due to the Father's Day Fiesta concert).

From 1-5 p.m., the Dia del Padre Fiesta continues with performances from four bands. The lineup includes Mariachi Tradicional, Los Bravos del Estado Grande, Los Fugitivos, and Los Linderos del Norte. The Día del Padre Fiesta is sponsored by Univision Nuevo Mexico, UniMas Nuevo México, José 105.9 FM and ESPN Deportes 1450 AM.

Free Park-and-Ride service is available thanks to sponsor Park it Place. Catch a shuttle from the Aquarium and Botanic Garden or at the Park it Place lot on the southwest corner of Central and 6th Street. Park-and-Ride shuttles run from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The event is included with regular admission. Guests are welcome to bring blankets, folding chairs and picnics. Food is available for purchase. Beer and wine are also available onsite. Outside alcoholic beverages and glass are not permitted. For more information, email [email protected] or dial 311 locally (505-768-2000).
