Afternoon Features Best Animal Dads and Musical Performances
Bring dad to the annual Dia del Padre (Father's Day Fiesta) at the Zoo on June 17, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., to learn about animal fathers and celebrate with live Latin music. The event includes discovery stations, four bands, local business booths, great food and prize giveaways.
"The Father's Day Fiesta is a great way to appreciate all dads," said Megan Lanigan, Zoo Education Specialist. "We'll be setup around the Zoo with hands-on activities highlighting amazing fathers throughout the animal kingdom. Did you know poison dart frog dads guard their eggs and then let the tadpoles ride around on their backs?"
From 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., find out who makes our "Top Ten Dads" at animal discovery stations. Parrots, wolves and meerkats are just a few of our favorites. You can also watch the animals explore enrichment items and make new enrichment gifts for them to enjoy.
From 1 - 5 p.m., the Dia del Padre Fiesta continues with performances from four bands. The lineup includes world famous singer and actor Lorenzo de Monteclaro and local groups Cuarto de Milla, Mariachi Tradicional, and Los Chavos Dun-Dun. The Día del Padre Fiesta is sponsored by Univision Nuevo Mexico, Telefutura Nuevo Mexico, José 105.9 FM and ESPN Deportes 1450 AM.
Free Park-and-Ride service is available from the Aquarium and Botanic Garden. Park-and-Ride shuttles run from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
The event is included with regular admission. Guests are welcome to bring blankets, folding chairs and picnics. Food is available for purchase. Beer and wine are also available onsite. Outside alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
