About Sonny Landreth
Sonny Landreth is a Southwest Louisiana-based slide guitarist, songwriter, and singer. His most recent album, Elemental Journey, was released May 22, 2012, and is his first all-instrumental effort and his most adventurous work to date. Working with several guests musicians, Landreth worked to craft an album that was “thematic with lots of melodies and with a chordal chemistry that was harmonically rich.”
His music includes elements of zydeco groove and style and phrasing found in classical guitar music, and creates thrilling moments when seemingly antithetical elements embrace. Landreth’s music has always been evocative, a vibrant mixture of indigenous sounds and images informed by Delta blues and Faulkner alike. But in “Elemental Journey,” by eschewing lyrics and vocals, he’s located something especially pure and unfettered. While his 11th album is infused with his and his friends’ experiences of post-Katrina Louisiana, Landreth says, “I want listeners to feel something that resonates with them personally. I’ve always tried to make music that engages you on a deeper level that way.” Prepare to be engaged . . . and transported.
