Zoo Says Goodbye to Azeo the Snow Leopard

He was the oldest male in Association of Zoos and Aquariums facilities.

Jan. 22, 2021 - The ABQ BioPark is sad to announce the passing of longtime resident Azeo the snow leopard. At nearly 20 years old, Azeo was the oldest and one of the most prolific males in Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) facilities.

He came to the BioPark in 2004 from the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Canada. Over the years, he sired 12 snow leopard cubs with former mate Kachina and two with his second mate Sarani. His offspring can be found in other zoos from Anchorage to Memphis.

Azeo was a staff favorite and will be missed by BioPark staff and visitors alike. He had a great personality and a gentle nature with his mates Kachina and Sarani.
