Summer is here and the Lorikeet exhibit is open at the ABQ BioPark Zoo. The exhibit provides guests with the chance to immerse themselves in a colorful avian experience.

The rainbow lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus) is a small colorful parrot from Australia, Papua New Guinea and other islands in the Southwest Pacific Ocean. During the summer months guests can feed small cups of nectar to these sociable birds. Lorikeets' brush-like tongues are perfect for lapping up fruit, nectar and pollen in the wild.

Feeding times are Wednesdays – Sundays from 10–11:30 a.m. and 2–3 p.m. through Labor Day. Cups of nectar are available for purchase for $2. Watch out! These parrots have been known to perch on guests’ heads in their excitement.
