Open House on BioPark Master Plan

The snow leopard and other cat exhibits are slated for major renovations in the Master Plan.

June 17, 2014

Updated on June 19 with info about location of display.

The final public information session of the master planning process for the ABQ BioPark will be held during an open house at the zoo on Monday, June 30. Many of the plans and ideas that have been formed as a part of the process will be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the gazebo just inside the main entrance of the zoo. Members of the planning team will be on-hand to answer questions from the community from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  (In the event of inclement weather, the displays and open house will take place in the Colores Classrooms.)

Admission to the ABQ BioPark Zoo will be free to visitors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 30; Aquarium/Botanic Garden admission will still be in effect. Members of the community are encouraged to come to the zoo, view the ideas created thus far and ask questions or offer comments about the master plan that will be finished this summer.

This is the third of three public information sessions that are included as part of the planning process. The finished master plan will guide repairs, renovations and new developments at the ABQ BioPark Zoo, Botanic Garden, Tingley Beach and Aquarium for the next 20 years or more. The city-owned facility covers more than 150 acres along the Rio Grande with nearly 100 buildings, thousands of animals, hundreds of thousands of plants and 1.2 million visitors annually.

Everyone with an interest in the future development of the BioPark is encouraged to attend and have the opportunity to help shape the future of the BioPark for generations to come. Community members who cannot attend the open house may learn more about the planning process, watch a video of the second public information session and submit comments about the plan online at www.abqbiopark.com/master-plan.
