Mother's Day Concert Planned for May 13
A live orchestra and wild animals make the ABQ BioPark Zoo a great place for the whole family to celebrate Mother's Day. The annual Mother's Day Concert at the Zoo at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 13 is presented by Lovelace Health System and Classical KHFM.
The day also features discovery stations for International Migratory Bird Day from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and the live World Animal Encounters Show at 11 a.m. The concert and activities are included with regular admission.
Orchestra Spectaculars
Conductor Stuart Chafetz leads the New Mexico Philharmonic in Orchestra Spectaculars! with selections from Dvorak, Sousa, Hayman, Bizet, Korsakov and Borodin. The winners of the Jackie McGehee Young Artists' Competition are also featured at the concert: Gabriel Landstedt on piano and Mario Bastea-Forte on cello. The concert lasts about one hour.
"The Mother's Day Concert is a special tradition for many New Mexico families," said Mayor Richard J. Berry. "We are pleased that the Philharmonic is bringing classical music back to the Zoo stage this year."
Lawn seating is available in the park. Food and drinks are available for purchase. Guests are welcome to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs, but no glass or alcohol can be brought in to the facility.
Park & Ride
Free park-and-ride service is offered from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Catch a shuttle from the Aquarium parking lot at Central and New York or from the parking structure at 2nd and Gold, where riders must show their zoo receipt to qualify for free parking.
