On Friday, May 3, orchid expert Carol Siegel will entertain guests with stories of the lurid love lives of orchids. She will divulge the tricks orchids use to entice pollinators during the Orchid Seduction Reception on Friday, May 3 from 5:30 - 9 p.m.

After Siegel's talk, Liar and Cheats: The Story of Orchid Deception, reception guests will stroll through the Aquarium to enjoy a champagne tasting and a meal inspired by aphrodisiacs. The menu includes oysters, lamb with figs and mint, and strawberries with chocolate. Tickets, $35, are limited and must be purchased by April 29 from www.nmog.org or by calling 505-848-7123.

"Once you're seduced by orchids, you're hooked for life," said Keith Mead, President of the New Mexico Orchid Guild. "The theme for this year's show was a perfect fit for a talk about how orchids seduce pollinators from Carolyn Siegel, who we have been trying to get to Albuquerque for years now. She's said to be a very entertaining speaker, and her talk is light and funny, as well as educational."

Carol Siegel, a member of the Greater Las Vegas Orchid Society, has served as president and newsletter editor for several years.  A retired English teacher and medical office manager, she has written numerous articles on orchids for Orchid Digest and other publications. She speaks about the love life of orchids at societies, museums, and universities around the country.

The evening reception is part of the three-day Orchid Seduction Show hosted by the Botanic Garden and the New Mexico Orchid Guild. On May 3, 4 and 5, BioPark guests can enjoy hundreds of orchids on display and for sale with regular admission from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, email [email protected] or dial 311 locally (505-768-2000).
