It’s time to celebrate all fathers at Radio Lobo’s Father’s Day Fiesta at the Zoo on June 15, noon - 5 p.m. Little Joe y la Familia headline the 15th annual Dia del Padre event, which also includes performances by Grupo Control and Mariachi Mystery Tour.
Get hands-on at discovery stations about animal fathers from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; watch free-flight birds and other creatures in the World Animals Encounters Show at 11 a.m. Throughout the day, visit booths of sponsoring community businesses around the park.
“We’re really excited about the performers we have for Father’s Day,” said Maryann Torrez, events manager. “We start with Mariachi Mystery Tour, who take on Beatles songs in a whole new way! Then, Grupo Control musicians and dancers take the stage with a really energetic mix of cumbia and norteno. Our headliners, Little Joe y la Familia, are Grammy-award winning musicians who have been treating audiences to Tex Mex music for decades.”
The Father’s Day Fiesta is sponsored by Radio Lobo, 2 KASA FOX, MY50 TV, Best Western Plus Rio Grande Inn, MetroPCS Wireless and a great group of community sponsors. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Zoo to You outreach program, which has been educating children across New Mexico for more than 30 years.
Free park-and-ride service is available from the Aquarium/Botanic Garden parking lot from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The event is included with regular admission. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are welcome, but please do not bring glass containers or alcoholic beverages into the park. Food, beer and wine are available for purchase.
