Free Fishing Derby and Prizes at Tingley Beach
March 6, 2015
Anglers of all ages can compete for prizes at Tingley Beach's 9th Annual Free Fishing Derby on Saturday, March 14 from 7:15 a.m. - 4 p.m. Grab your fishing gear, cast a line, and reel in one of the 5,000 newly stocked rainbow trout. A New Mexico fishing license is required for everyone 12 years and older.
Several of the rainbow trout will be tagged. Anglers will have the chance to win a prize if they hook one of the 200 tagged fish at Central Pond. To receive prizes, tagged trout must be caught during Saturday's Free Fishing Derby.
"Our sponsors make the Fishing Derby a fun, friendly contest for adults and kids, so come enjoy the day with us," said Kathy Lang, Curator of Tingley Beach. "New Mexico Game and Fish regularly stocks our ponds, and they're helping us get ready for the big event by bringing thousands of new trout."
The Free Fishing Derby is hosted by the ABQ BioPark, City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department, Charlie's Sporting Goods, Los Pinos Fly & Tackle Shop, Quality Baits and New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. Special thanks to our sponsors for their continued support and for providing some really nice prizes too.
Tingley Beach Café will be open and selling food and drink inside the Tingley Station. Fishing licenses are NOT available for sale at Tingley Beach. No registration is required for this free event.
Tingley Beach will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13 to prepare for the derby.
