Eat With the Apes

Dinner event offers opportunity to dine among the great apes.

Have you ever wondered how the ABQ BioPark Zoo's apes eat? Guests will have the chance to eat among the great apes at the Eat like an Ape event from 6-9 p.m. on May 20 at the ABQ BioPark Zoo.

Different meal courses will be offered at the chimpanzee, gorilla and orangutan habitats.

"The Zoo's great apes get a variety of human-grade foods, and this event gives attendees the chance to try a few ape-inspired veggie courses while enjoying delicious human foods as well," said Debbie Wiese, ABQ BioPark zookeeper supervisor.

The event will also include a keeper talk in the Africa Amphitheater. A silent auction will give attendees the opportunity to bid on ape art and a special behind the scenes tour of the ape house for two, which will include a painting done by a gorilla during the tour.

The meal will include delicious appetizers, a first course, main course and dessert including ape-inspired veggies and human food like trout and beef.
