Botanic Garden Night Hours FAQ

Dec. 9, 2020 - The ABQ BioPark is happy to announce the addition of modified daytime hours and new night hours at the Botanic Garden this winter. We've compiled some anticipated questions with answers about our night hours here.

What are evening hours at the Botanic Garden?

Evening garden hours are a shift in our operating hours during part of December 2020 and January 2021, which will allow guests to visit the Botanic Garden in the early evening. The garden will open later in the day and stay open later at night.

Is this River of Lights?

No. However, we will display a selection of lights and sculptures that will visible to guests who choose to visit during evening hours, courtesy of the New Mexico BioPark Society.

When are evening hours?

Evening hours will run from Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020 - Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021.  Evening hours will not be offered on these days: December 24, 25 and 31, January 1. The Garden is also closed every Mondays and Tuesdays, so no daytime or nighttime hours will occur on those days.

How do Botanic Garden night hours differ from daytime hours?

For safety, guests visiting in the evening will follow a limited one-way path through portions of the Botanic Garden.

What time are the evening hours?

Night hours will run from 5-9 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays. The last ticket window for entry is  8-8:30 p.m.

How much does entrance to the evening hours cost?

All adult tickets are $12. All children's tickets are $6 (3-12 years old). No additional discounts are being offered. All proceeds will go to the New Mexico BioPark Society to fund conservation, animal training and enrichment programs, as well as other special projects at the BioPark.

Can I buy tickets at the gate?

No. All ticket sales are online in advance. You may choose the date and time you would like to visit. These tickets are limited to ensure a safe amount of guests are visiting at any given time.

Are masks required?

Yes, all guests and staff are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing from other guests during their visit to the Botanic Garden.

Can I purchase snacks?

Yes, a selection of grab and go concessions will be available to order in advance. You may pick up your snacks either before or after your garden visit at the Shark Reef Café, located at the Garden's entrance courtyard. There is also a pickup location along the garden route about mid-way through the garden. Order in advance.

Is the BioPark still limited to in-state residents only?

Yes, the ABQ BioPark is currently limited to New Mexico state residents only. Read more here.

I see that there are half-hour ticket windows for entry. Does that mean I can only stay for 30 minutes?

No. You can enjoy the one-way path at your own pace, but the suggested visit time is 45 minutes to 1 hour. The half-hour window just helps to control the amount of guests entering the garden at any given time.

Why are evening hours slightly more expensive than daytime hours?

All proceeds from evening hours will go to the New Mexico BioPark Society to fund conservation, animal training and enrichment programs, as well as other special projects at the BioPark.

Won't this be a busy event with too many people?

No. The garden has been operating with these same procedures since mid-June. Evening hours continue our practice of timed-ticketing and limited number of guests. There is no difference between daytime and evening hours; the same limits apply.

How will entry tickets be scanned?

Upon entry, ABQ BioPark admissions staff will scan your ticket through glass. Just show your mobile device or printed ticket that you purchased in advance.

Will the gift shop be open?

Yes, the gift shop at the garden will be open during daytime and evening hours.  The amount of guests allowed inside the shop will be limited.

Can I still visit in the daytime?

Of course! The garden will be open in the daytime from noon-4 p.m. The last ticket window for daytime entry is from 3-3:30 p.m.

Can I purchase a daytime ticket and stay in the garden until evening?

No. The entire garden will be closed between daytime and evening hours to ensure a deep cleaning of high-touch surfaces and to prepare the path for evening hours.

When is the BUGarium open?

The BUGarium will be open during daylight garden hours, from noon-4 p.m.
