The ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden will present a new flower show, the Iris Fiesta, on April 26 and 27 in partnership with Albuquerque Aril and Iris Society. Iris enthusiasts will exhibit award-winning aril and aril-hybrid irises as well as other types of bearded iris in the Heritage Farmhouse. The show is included with regular admission and will be open from 1 - 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday.

“The irises in the Botanic Garden are starting to really shine this time of year,” said Catherine Hubbard, Botanic Garden Manager. “We’re pleased to be working with the Albuquerque Aril and Iris Society to present this new show. It is a great way to show off the beauty of these flowers and encourage guests to try growing them at home, too.”

Arils are several species of iris native to the mountainous areas of the Near East, extending from Turkey and Israel to the Russian Caucasus.  Pure aril species are difficult to grow in the New Mexico climate, but arils cross readily with other iris species, producing hybrids that adapt better to our growing conditions. So far, this is a great year for iris bloom in Albuquerque!

The Iris Show opens as the Earth Day Celebration and the Children's Seed Festival are ending. Botanic Garden guests can enjoy all three events on Saturday with regular admission.
