What do you give a gorilla for Christmas?

Hope the Gorilla

Posted: December 19, 2012

Basking in the sun, Hope the gorilla samples a cottonwood leaf. This 16-year old (17 in January) is naturally curious as she explores enrichment, including giant popsicles with fruit chunks and cloth she drapes over her head.

Enrichment items are treats and puzzles used to stimulate mental and physical activity. See the gorillas and other animals get holiday enrichment gifts on Dec. 22 at the Zoo.

Western Lowland gorillas are residents of Africa’s dense tropical forests, mountains and grasslands. These habitats are destroyed by mining for coltan, a metal used in electronics. When you get a new cell phone, recycle your old phone at the BioPark and help conserve gorilla habitat.
