ABQ BioPark Zoo Unveils New Garden Stops

Facility to hold ribbon cutting to celebrate improvements funded by PNM's Power Up grant.

08/25/2016 - Three areas of the ABQ BioPark Zoo just got a facelift thanks to funding from PNM.

The New Mexico BioPark Society (NMBPS) and the ABQ BioPark will hold the PNM Power Up Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 10 a.m. on August 29. The ceremony will take place at the African Oasis garden spot, which is near the throne chair and hog barn.

NMBPS received a $19,000 PNM Power Up grant from the PNM Resources Foundation to fund the improvements of three garden stop areas at the Zoo. The renovated areas are located in the Africa and Raptor Roost exhibits.

"We would like to thank PNM for their generous support, which made this project possible," said Darcie Martin, NMBPS Development Manager. "Our new colorful garden stops will give visitors a place to relax, picnic, and learn more about the environment, conservation and culture."

The improvements include additional seating, native plants and plant identification signage.

In 2015, the PNM Power Up grant program awarded $500,000 to nonprofits to fund projects that will help improve the quality of life and help build stronger communities in New Mexico.
