ABQ BioPark Looking for Citizen Scientists to Help With Annual Bird Count

Volunteers will help contribute to nationwide avian research.

Feb. 11, 2020 - The ABQ BioPark is looking for citizen scientists to help take a snapshot of local birds during the 23rd annual Great Backyard Bird Count.

The free event takes place at the Botanic Garden from 8:30-11 a.m. on February 15.

The international Great Backyard Bird Count takes an annual snapshot of migratory birds across the World. All information collected at the BioPark will be given to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology to be compiled with data from around the globe.

"This is your chance to let your inner scientist come out for a good cause," said Estrellita Romero, Botanic Garden education coordinator. "The ABQ BioPark is proud to once again take part in this international event, which helps researchers learn more about how birds are doing across the country and how we can protect them."

No pre-registration is required for this event, but volunteers must meet tour guides in front of the Botanic Garden at 8:30 a.m.
