20 Years of Growing at Botanic Garden & Aquarium
10/19/2016 - Celebration is in the air at the ABQ BioPark with the 20th anniversary of the Botanic Garden and Aquarium this fall.
The two facilities opened in 1996, and have had some major makeovers over the years.
The Botanic Garden started with a few conservatories and courtyard and has since added the Railroad Garden, Curandera Garden, Children's Fantasy Garden, Butterfly Pavilion, Heritage Farm, Japanese Garden, High Desert Rose Garden, Bugarium, Cottonwood Gallery and Dragonfly Sanctuary Pond Courtyard.View a video showing the Botanic Garden's transformation here.
The garden was named one of "20 Botanical Gardens with Beauty to Behold," by Trip Advisor in 2016. The list featured gardens from across the world.
Over the years, the Aquarium has updated its exhibits as well. Some of the biggest changes since the facility opened are the Pacific Gallery and Pacific Reef Tank, Mangrove Touch Pool and mudskippers exhibit, and the Plastic Plague exhibit. Today, the Aquarium also features a monthly Aquarium Overnight in the spring and fall, is home to the Shark Reef Café, and hosts a number of educational events throughout the year.
"We have made so much progress in the last 20 years and we invite the community to celebrate this incredible milestone by taking part in our anniversary celebrations and contests this fall," said Holly Casman, ABQ BioPark Interim Executive Director. "We look forward to many more years of expanding and improving our world-renowned facilities."
Throughout October, November and December, the BioPark will feature social media contests, giving followers a chance to win family four-packs to the Botanic Garden and Aquarium and tickets to the River of Lights.
In addition, any guest who was born in 1996 or has a birthday on the 20th of any month will be eligible for a free single admission ticket during the following promotional weekends: October 20-23; November 19-20; and December 17-20.
