Join award-winning pastelist Vasili Katakis for a two-day painting workshop in the Sasebo Japanese Garden. Learn about plein-aire, or outdoor, landscape painting. Register online for the Borrowed Landscape workshop, November 9-10.

Vasili Katakis is a signature member in the New Mexico Pastel Society. He has taught art and film at Chicago's Columbia College. Vasili has painted all his life and continues to capture views that are a testament to humans' interactions with nature.

"The Japanese Garden is a beautiful, dynamic space for students to learn about painting a specific environment," said Tallie Segel, Botanic Garden Education Coordinator.  "Vasili is a great instructor, and he is able to help painters find elements that aren't immediately noticeable."

The fall workshop meets from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.:

  • Japanese Garden II - Borrowed Landscape (Nov. 9-10)
