There are only two more opportunities to experience Summer Nights concerts at the Botanic Garden this summer. This week, listen to the lingering Americana sounds of Boris McCutcheon & the Salt Licks on August 16.

Boris & the Salt Licks hail from northern New Mexico, by way of the high road to Taos. This genre-bending roots band, led by the friendly rogue Boris McCutcheon, grabs you by the scruff of the neck and gives a kick to your soul. Based in the country idiom, with a healthy mix of waltzes and two-steps to move your feet to, Boris' songs are rocking, sultry, funny, dark, and poetic.

"We are excited to have these renowned local artists perform at the BioPark," said Maryann Torrez, BioPark Events Manager. "Boris & the Salt Licks capture their audience with compelling lyrics, addictive melodies and tons of variety."

McCutcheon plays guitar, harmonica and mandolin in compositions that are a distillation of great love for American folk and roots music. He is backed by an incredible band of musicians known as The Salt Licks: Boris's longtime collaborator Brett Davis on guitar, tenor banjo, lap steel guitar, duct tape and harmony vocals (think of Steve Cropper as a desert rat); the incomparable Kevin Zoernig on vintage keyboards and accordion; Susan Hyde Holmes (known affectionately as "Thunderhoof") on bass and harmony vocals; and the ever-loving Paul Groetzinger on drums and cymbals.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m. Summer Nights guests can tour the Garden until 8 p.m. and the Aquarium until 9 p.m. Summer Nights is sponsored by Channel 95.1 All the Hits, 104.7 Albuquerque's Classic Country and Best Western Rio Grande Inn.

And mark your calendar for the final Summer Nights concert on August 23, with folk rock group Joy Kills Sorrow closing this year's BioPark concert series.
