Description
The ABQ BioPark joins ABC Library to celebrate the Big Read 2012 of Rudolpho Anaya's Bless Me, Ultima. Anaya's book tells the story of Grandmother Ultima, a wise healer who uses plants for medicine. Its themes are richly represented here in the Rio Grande valley.
Celebrate the stories of healing plants in our own community and honor all grandmother healers at this special event.
Guest Presenters
Tonita Gonzales, a Traditional Healer, Curandera, Sobadora, Yerbera and Temazcalera in Albuquerque.
Amber Anastasion, an herbalist at Milagro Herbs in Santa Fe and teaches classes on herbs, herbal medicine making and remedies.
Maria Thomas, Curator of the Curandera Garden Exhibit at the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden.
The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
