Like many other ocean species, sea turtles are struggling to survive. Visit the ABQ BioPark Aquarium to learn all about sea turtles. You'll find out about their unique biology, the threats facing sea turtles and how you can help protect them.

This fun-filled day of activities, art, films and guest speakers will include hands-on stations throughout the Aquarium. Learn about the two sea turtle species at the ABQ BioPark and how the Aquarium helps injured animals.

Discovery Stations

  • Introduction to Sea Turtles: did you know the leatherback can get 6 feet long, weigh over 2,000 pounds and dive below 3,000 feet?
  • Turtle Morphology: turtles have various beak shapes depending on their primary diet. Find out which turtle has a beak like a needle nose pliers and which is like a staple remover.
  • Marine Debris: learn how trash gets into the ocean, how it impacts the turtles and what you can do about it

Enjoy two ocean-themed films at the Aquarium's theater. Come see Bag It and Ancient Sea Turtles: Stranded in Modern World.

Our guest speaker is Ariel Vasquez of the US Fish and Wildlife Service.  He will be presenting at 2:30 pm in the Theater.
