Description

Whitewater Baldy Fire:

What Does It Mean for Gila Trout Recovery?

Speaker: Jill Wick, Gila Trout Biologist with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish

Gila trout once inhabited hundreds of miles of the Gila and San Francisco River basins. Today, the species exists in only a handful of populations and in a limited range in New Mexico and Arizona. They are listed as threatened on the federal and state levels. Competition, habitat degradation, and ecosystem disturbance, including high-severity wildfires, are just some of the threats this native fish faces.

Join Jill Wick, NM Game and Fish Gila Trout Biologist, for an update on Gila trout. How did the 2012 wildfires affect this species? Is there any good news for fish as the ecosystem begins to recover?

After the talk, check out the Gila trout on exhibit in the Aquarium's Shark Reef Cafe.

Can't make it on Thursday? Come to the seminar on Saturday, April 6.
