Balloon Museum: Open Year-Round

Our regular hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. We are closed Mondays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and during City holidays that fall on Mondays. Admission may be purchased upon arrival at our main entrance. Please note, hours of operation and admission prices are subject to change without notice.
 
WEATHER DELAYS OR CLOSURES
The Balloon Museum is a City facility. If the City of Albuquerque declares a delayed opening or closure due to weather conditions, the Balloon Museum will follow these directives. Please look for announcements about the City's operating status on local media stations and/or this website, www.cabq.gov.
 

Balloon Museum Admission Prices

  • Admission includes entry to our exhibitions and the Tim Anderson 4-D Theater
  • Guided tours are free, and are offered based on volunteer docent availability
  • Adult: $6 ($5 for New Mexico residents with a valid ID)
  • Senior (65+): $4
  • Youth (ages 6-17): $3
  • Child (5 and under): Free
  • Ask to Donate a Dollar or More to our Science and Education Programs!
  • Museum Foundation Members; ICOM, AAM & NMAM members: Free

  • Free admission for everyone: the first Friday of every month and every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visiting the Balloon Museum During Balloon Fiesta

ABOUT THE BALLOON MUSEUM DURING FIESTA Oct 5 – 13: 

  • The Balloon Museum will be open daily during Fiesta, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Parking may be restricted between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. for Special Programming Events.
  • A wristband will be given to paying customers, with colors changing daily.
  • Regular museum admission rates apply.
  • Gates to the outside grounds will be open daily from 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Paid admission not required for outside grounds.  Guests will be cleared from the outside grounds at 5:00 p.m.
  • A Café will be open daily from 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. to purchase hot and cold beverages and light snacks.
  • Stories in the Sky and Music in the Sky will be moved to Valle del Norte Community Center, located at 1812 Candelaria Rd. NW on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 during Balloon Fiesta week!
  • Exhibitions include our main exhibition – From First flights to Around the World – as well as Arctic Air, The Weather Lab, Solar Ballooning, First Air Voyages in America, Balloon School, Rally! From Here to There, and Above and Beyond: The International Ballooning Hall of Fame.
  • Guided tours of the main exhibition will be offered at 2 p.m. daily and as docents become available.
  • Oct 5 – 10: The 4D Theater content includes The World’s Largest Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and My Balloon Ride. Screenings are daily every 15 minutes, starting at 6:00 a.m.
  • Oct 11 – 13: Wind Riders (an additional $2.00 charge) will be shown daily at 3:30 p.m. and ends at 4:25 p.m.

    Film descriptions:
    • The World’s Largest Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, is a four-minute, 2-D film about everyone's favorite balloon rally, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta!
    • My Balloon Ride, a five-minute, 4-D video filmed aboard balloons from Rainbow Ryders, Albuquerque's largest balloon ride operator. Scenes capture inflation, lift-off, flight, landing, and chase crew operations.
    • Wind Ridersa feature length documentary, tells the poignant and inspiring stories of three American balloonists who dedicate their lives to their sport: a masterful solo hot-air balloon pilot whose quiet passion transcends generations, and a driven championship gas-balloon team competing in a high-risk quest to defend their world title.
