Description

LEEKYA TRUNK SHOW: HOSTED BY KENT MCMANIS AND GREY DOG TRADING

Featuring Leekya Family and Zuni Fetish Carvings. The selections reflect our love of high quality, handmade Native art. We carry exclusively Zuni fetishes, and include the names and family associations of all the carvers. Education is one of our most important services and we will be happy to answer questions regarding any of our items. ([email protected])

The term "fetish" is defined as "an object believed to have a power greater than the object itself would naturally possess." (See the book Zuni Fetishes and Carvings by Kent McManis.) The carving of animal forms in stone and shell goes back to pre-historic times. The Zuni people of New Mexico are the best known for these carvings.
