Description

Bultos are a living tradition of the religious iconography in Spanish folk art. Sculptures of saints and other religious figures were an integral part of the Spanish colonization of the Americas. The tradition of wooden santo carving was preserved as a folk art in parts of Mexico and Northern New Mexico.

Conservators Keith Bakker and Allison Herrera discuss bultos and bulto making techniques with objects from the Museum's collection, as well as other important collections in New Mexico.
