Alicia Romero, curator at the New Mexico History Museum, examines the evolution of colonial paintings of Mary from Mexico, South America, and New Mexico. These hybrid images demonstrate some of the ways in which Catholicism and Catholic iconography was modified to reflect the people, landscape and cultures of the Americas.
