About Casa San Ysidro
In the early 1950s, Shirley and Ward Alan Minge took a late 19th century building and turned it into a plazuela-style rancho to house their exuberant collection of New Mexico vernacular art. They lived there for many years, and then donated the property to the City of Albuquerque in the late 1990s.
Casa San Ysidro Events
Neighbors and friends still talk about the fun they had at the Minges' dinner parties.
We capture some of that fun in the many events throughout the year, including free monthly programs, a Spring Heritage Festival, a Fall Harvest Festival.
Your family will want to come back again and again. Come join us!
We have so many great stories to share.
The Gutiérrez family built the original house and a severe portrait of Encarnación Gutiérrez hangs in the front hall. Members of the Acoma community quarried and donated the flagstone floor for the Sala Grande. Casa was and is a working farm -- we use produce from the crops to make our green chile stew at the Harvest Festival.
School groups love us!
Casa San Ysidro embodies the collective creativity of generations of artists and craftspeople in its furnishings and architectural features, exemplifying an interesting tension between tradition and change that New Mexicans have lived with for centuries.
You can learn all about this history as a volunteer docent. We'd love to work with you!
