Information about the proposed City Charter Amendment for 13 Council districts.
Councilor Isaac Benton has introduced legislation that will initiate a public hearing process on a proposed charter amendment to increase the number of Council districts from 9 to 13.
Read Councilor Benton's June 18 Press Release to learn more about why he wants to present this issue to the voters.
A charter amendment must be approved by the voters, and two public hearings are required prior to Council voting on whether to put the amendment on the ballot. R-12-69 calls for the scheduling of these two public hearings. The proposed amendment is included in the resolution as Exhibit A. R-12-69 will be on Council's August 6 agenda for final action.
The hearings would allow for public discussion of the proposed amendment as well as possible 13-district maps. Two map options have been created for consideration.
